We've had another busy year and continue to be grateful for all the blessings bestowed on us. It was a great to pause for a moment to share some design picks, and advice about what I've learned over the years with Terrys Blinds, a popular UK-based window treatment company, specializing and stylish yet affordable blinds. Hello Houzz!

It's been an emotional week. Lots to share, but things are a tad too painful to discuss at the moment. For now I'll start with this little nugget. In my quest to continue to merge my love of writing and design, I've signed up to be a contributing writer with Houzz, you know them, that little design site that homeowners/designers/design enthusiasts adore. 

Anywho, my first article was published yesterday and it's about the Caribbean,one of my favorite subjects to boot.

Anywho, I digress. If we thought 2012 was a killer year, watch out 2013. To start the year off, here comes this little feature on non other than Apartment Therapy. It's no easy feat having your work showcased here, so I kinda squealed out loud when I got the email on Sunday that they'd selected our client Janeka's Master Bedroom makeover to feature this week. Hot Dog!
In addition to this, we're in the midst of a negotiating some other major ishes this week so yes, yes, keep us in your prayers. Now go forth and check out all the goodies on Apartment Therapy. Love that site!  P.S. Happy Hump Day!

Miami Designs Featured on Houzz

TGIF!!!!!!!!! We're so hyped it's the weekend! Not that we'll be resting much since we're in the midst of trying to wrap up a few projects by years end. Anyhoo, your favorite design firm was featured on Houzz this week among some local heavy weights, including one of my local faves, Dkor designs. We're debunking the myth that Miami design lacks sophistication. Go forth and check it out.

A Feature in My Hometown Newspaper

I was a baby who cried non-stop. I mean, all day/night for no obvious reason. My antics are so legendary that whenever I run into someone who knew me as a baby, the first thing they'll say to me is  "Lawd, little girl, we thought you'd be a singer! You cried soooooooooo much." Translation: You would never shut up!
The only thing that would silence me was a stack of newspapers. How ironic that I became a newspaper reporter. The irony continued yesterday when I was featured in one of my hometown newspapers, the Jamaica Observer. 

To share the journey of my years growing up in Jamaica, the struggles I had as an immigrant when I first moved to New York, and my sojourn from journalism to design, was an honor of epic proportions for me. In one final irony, the feature came about because unbeknown to be, the writer was a follower of this blog! Never underestimate the opportunities that can come about from the blogosphere.

Design Dos and Don'ts With DefySupply via Houzz

I was asked to share some design dos and don'ts with the folks over at DefySupply for an info graphic they were working on.
They released it last week and I gotta say, it looks super cool - this I say using my borrowed Cuban accent, which I copied from this amazing video titled, "Shit Miami Girls Say and Guys." If you've never seen that video, hold on to your over-sized drawers because it is BANANAS!  
Anyway, I digress.
The main thing I wanted to point out is that amazing opportunity, landed in my email via Houzz. If you're a lover of all things design, and not on Houzz, then you need to stop 'sippin on that syrup and get to it STAT. It is the ish, a bag of chips and a can of hair grease all rolled into one. Translation, among the best sites for those in the design business, and where potential clients/followers congregate to see the latest in design. 
I cannot tell you how many opportunities have happened for my business this year because of Houzz. Love them. Now. Go forth and join that thing. But before you do, check out these dos and don'ts.
