The Puerto Rican Sojourn - Days 2 & 3

Whew. So it looks like Hurricane Isaac will spare much of the Caribbean and South Florida.  The heavy winds and rains could cause some flooding for our friends in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, so we're keeping them in our thoughts.
We're pretty sure our friends down in Puerto Rico are especially happy to see this weather change. In case you missed it, I was in PR earlier this month and had a blast. As promised, here are the photos from the remainder of the trip.

El Yunque...HERE WE COME!!

From the observation point of The Yokahu Tower. Kinda reminds me of the mountains of Jamaica.
La Mina Falls - the trail to the falls was amazing. Sorry, I don't have any pictures but I was too busy watching my step making sure I didn't end up flat on my face...lol

Stopped for some libation on our way back from El Yunque. I was still trying to catch my breath after making it back up the trail.  Who knew that Pina Coladas had medicinal purposes?
On our last day, we spent the afternoon in Old San Juan before heading to the airport.  I was so hot I don't know how I didn't end up here. Darn kids have all the fun.

We walked around the for thirty minutes looking for Raices Restaurant, because we heard it was a must while on the island. Well, when we finally found it, the wait was over thirty minutes and departure time was drawing near, so we ended up eating at Chili's...lol

We had an amazing time but there was so much we didn't get to see and do. So, another trip is definitely in the works.

Hope you all have a great weekend.  We'll be hoping that Isaac doesn't gather any more strength and simply just fade into the night.

The Puerto Rican Sojourn - Day 1

TGIF!!!!!!
And a Happy 100th Post to Us! Can't believe how much time has flown by since we first stepped into the blogosphere. Anywho, it's been a crazy week as always...well mostly for Niks, poor thing but at least she has the memories of her recent mini vacay to reflect on.....
So as promised, let's get up to speed on my own recent getaway. I wish I was back in Puerto Rico. But since I won't be able to sneak away again for a while, I thought I would reminisce about my trip earlier this month. Here are some shots from our first day.
We left Fort Lauderdale on the 6:10am flight, so we had to be at the airport at the ungodly hour of 4:00am, hence there wasn't time to get breakfast, so the first place we hit after checking into the hotel (much love to folks at the front desk of the Double Tree San Juan for the super early check-in) was Bebo's Cafe just walking distance from the hotel. Sorry, I was too busy stuffing my face to remember to take pics of the inside or the food...lol

After getting a much needed energy boost with some food and two cafe con leches, it was off to the beach. Thankfully it was only a fifteen minute drive from our hotel.
Had to write my name in the sand...actually I was trying to write "Debbie was here" but it kept getting washed away...sigh.
Since we spent almost 4 hours at the beach, we decided to take Antonio's (a bell hop at the Double Tree) advice and checkout the local restaurants down the street from the beach for dinner.
I ordered a SMALL snapper and this is what showed up. Safe to say I had to ask for a to go container. Thank God we had a fridge in the room.

This is the boardwalk behind the restaurant. I just had to take a picture.
We had big plans to go a Reggeaton club later that night..I think you can guess that didn't happen...we went to sleep at 9pm and got up at 8am the next morning...LOL.

Next week I will share the pictures of our visit to El Yunque Rainforest and Old San Juan.

Have a safe and happy weekend.  See you on the flip side

xoxo
Debbie.

or maybe taking a quick cat nap with sounds of the surf as a lullaby since I had a 6:10am flight and left home at 3:30am with only 2 hours sleep. Can you tell I was super excited to finally take some time off?
My two day jam packed getaway will include a visit to El Yunque Rainforest, which I think will be the highlight of the entire trip.

I promise to share pictures of my trip when I get back. I hope you all have a safe and adventurous weekend.
