Series: One Chair, Two Fabrics

These awesome Ikat covered chairs are from the wonderful Paige at Seekers Bazaar.
I fell in blogger love with Paige for being a girl after my own heart, since she took the plunge and did the double fabric dance with these chairs. I got even more smitten when when I saw her bad-ass Flamingo inspired foyer. We kinda have a thing for Flamingos around here as well. 

Loves?! It doesn't hurt that she's also funny as hell so please head on over there and show her some love.

  Okay, now back to the lesson at hand.

Paige is in the midst of renovating her home and scored these fab Butterfly Wing chairs on Craigslist to go right smack in her newly renovated living room. 

Okay, then she had the nerve to redo them in two of my all-time favorite colors - orange and pink - with fabric she sourced here.
A good rule of thumb when using such a bold fabric choice is to add a solid fabric in the mix to help soothe things out a bit and not have your head spinning from pattern overload.
Paige did just that by adding the beige fabric on the back. But anyone seeing the chairs from the back, will also have a hint of what's to come since the Ikat fabric wraps the arms of the chair and the piping. 
I think these chairs are the icing on the cake in this reno, which I should mention is equally ballsy since it involves the awesome dark wood floors shown above, pink walls, pink crown molding and pink trim. This girl loves her some pink.

Double the Pleasure: One Chair, Two Fabrics

Since you guys raved so much here about this awesome idea of using two different fabrics on one chair, I figured I'd turn it into a series. Nothing formal, just an occasional nod to this awesome way of turning up the "accent" in accent chair. If you have a chair that fits the bill just send me photos (before and afters would be great) with some background info and I'll feature it here. That simple.  
So remember these chairs we revealed here from this recent project?

 

Well if you follow me on Instagram you know they used to look like this.

As much as I loved the floral print and the feminine charm of said floral, I knew this chair had the potential to be a bad-ass. When choosing the fabrics you'll combine, think of the overall design in the rest of the space. For example, since this was going in a room already heavy in pink, I thought it was okay to use pink here only along the piping. I considered greys and black fabrics, and I wrestled with the two options for a while. In the end, I thought the black would be a bit too harsh for the space and opted for a grey and white striped on the back as a bold statement to see when you enter the living room, and a solid grey on the front (I did have the chairs refinished in black which was a solid complement to the other colors). A simple pink pillow added the finishing touches. 

If you're not sure about this approach, buy half a yard or so of the fabrics you have in mind, drape them over the chairs and live with it for a few days before you commit. 

And there you have it, two chairs that now make a grand statement on their own, with two bold fabric choices. Can't wait to see how you guys have done this on your own chairs or for clients so send along so we can feature.

Chairs On Wheels? Let's Slide Shall We....

If you follow me on Instagram you kinda know I'm mildly obsessed with reupholstering chairs. Kinda obsessed with accent chairs in general as I also dished about here. 
So, of course I've noticed this trend of beautiful chairs/sofas with wheels. Super cute (said in my Miami Cuban accent) but the functional side of me wants to know how practical are these lovelies? Sure, it must be easier to rearrange your furniture and to scoot closer to someone when you're trying to have a conversation, but doesn't this also mean that you're sliding all over the place if the chair has wheels? Or do they have a locking system in place?
