A Weekend Escape. At Last.

I did the unthinkable last weekend: I took a break. No phone, no email, no Twitter, Facebook or Linked In. No blog post. No client proposals, sourcing/shopping for items, no budget updates. Zip. Nada.
I've been working non-stop since returning from maternity leave at the end of January. I have a hectic 9 to 5 job, and have been blessed to see my design business inundated with projects all year.
Did I mention that I'm also a new mommy with a frisky 9-month-old at home?
I've also had some special challenges on a recent project and I reached my breaking point on Friday. I told the hubs we had to go, and besides, I couldn't have Debbie be the only one who had a mini vacay right?
My amazing day job colleague Sophia, booked us a room at the fabu SouthSeasResort in Captiva Island, just off the west coast of Florida. Of course you know I tried to cancel it right? Told myself there was just too much to do, project details to review/finalize, that I needed to spend the weekend with the baby etc.. But as luck would have it, we'd lose all of our money if we canceled with such short notice, so off we went. I gotta say. It was amazing. Peace, calm, quiet.
1. Me and the look of complete giddiness I had all weekend 2. Loaded up on my favorite wine, Reisling 3. Hadn't read my Essence mag in foreva, and man, have I missed a LOT 4. Caught up on the latest design trends in my home state courtesy of Florida Design 5. So, before my life got completely insane, I was a book junkie. I haven't had the chance to read much these days but since three different things I read this weekend mentioned Marie NDiaye's latest novel, I figured it was time to get my reading on. Said book has been ordered. Can't wait 6. I used to snuggle up with my Sunday NYT back in the day, and finally had some time to do. I read every page of every section. Learned a lot.
La Playa. Ok, definitely not as fabulous as my Jamaican beach but it was oh so quiet and serene.
More beach. Of course.
Hey, even he wanted a quiet stroll.
Seriously, everyone rode these bicycles around the resort and the island as well.
Or they hopped on the local Trolley. The place is 300 acres. It's kinda large so ya gotta get on something to get around.

Birds eye view of the resort.

Me and the hubs cheesing it up.

And of course, even though my lil man was home with grandma all weekend, I missed him so much that I snuck in a few calls, til he eventually hung up on me. Okay. I got the message. A getaway is a getaway. Try it often guys. I'm an official convert.
