A Week in Weston - The Foyer

Woohoo, here we are back in Weston, Florida to dish about this foyer that has taken on a life of it's own on Instagram. As I mentioned in yesterday's reveal of the living and dining rooms, our clients Athalia and Sam have an amazing eye for design and love taking a risk or two. So, in our design pitch, we went a bit off on a limb and presented two very bold fun wallpaper inspired designs for the foyer.

They fell in love with option 1 and off we went to make it happen. This is what the foyer looked like when they purchased the home back in April.

The foyer is the unconventional kind in that it's the entry point from the garage and not from the front door. While not the first room all guests will see when they first enter the home, it's to the left of the living room and visible enough to command some attention. The new hardwood floors extended to this area of course and Lordy, that green carpet made Athalia cringe and had to go, go, go.

Once we ordered the wallpaper, Athalia and I settled next on that stunning light fixture. I fell in love with the console table on a trip to the Dania Design Center but it was a bit pricey so we decided to keep searching. Weeks later we still hadn't found anything we loved, then my sales rep from the DDC called to say the table would be on sale. Music to my ears. Sold.
Now, like every other designer on the planet, I've been obsessed with Mongolian lambs wool benches. Who can forget this killer DIY from Nadia at Preciously Me?  The stools are from Bed Bath and Beyond topped with these pillows from West Elm. Y'all know my DIYs are few and far in between, so the amazing Hernando of Titan Decor, my drapery team, whipped this one up for me pronto.

No idea why, but I dragged my feet on ordering the lamps and then realized that the ones from the inspiration board were way out of budget! Thankfully I'd always loved this collection from Lamps Plus. They came with a white shade, which we initially used, but I'd also purchased some black shades to again mix things up a bit. Alas, they didn't fit, but Athalia had become equally obsessed with them being black. We ordered the right ones and voila, we couldn't love these lamps any more. And oh, those lips! I've wanted that print by Jessica of The Aestate from the moment I first saw them. Ironically I won a print from a giveaway on the Glamourmash. I looked at those lips every day in my office and thought hmmm, I think Athalia's console needs the sassy/sexy vibe of them lips. I placed the order, sat the print on the table on installation day and she loved it.

The foyer is connected to the stairway so I wanted to somehow connect the two spaces. When I first met with Sam, he told me that since he lived in a home filled with women, he was okay with a pink wall place but that it better be a bad-ass pink.

This pink, appropriately called "Hot" by Sherwin Williams, may be as bad-ass as it gets, and is a stunning backdrop for Athalia's photos of daughters Noa and Emerson.  Athalia is an attorney but is also a budding photographer. She also shot the photos of the foyer. We painted the stair rails in a black and silver to mimic the colors of the wallpaper print. They'll see lots of hand traffic so the black will hide plenty of dirt for years to come.
Oh, and of course that horrible green carpet is now a distant memory, replaced with the same hardwood that now runs throughout the home. And there you have it. Day two in Weston with loads of insider details on how this all came together. Could you live with a pink wall or bold wallpaper? Have you? If so please feel free to share a link.
